Are you experiencing anxiety? Anxiety is a response to thoughts and fears about our ablility to cope with future events, or the possibility of experiencing insurmountable resistance. These fears are based on the perceived threat of possible negative situations, and often have a basis in reality - amplified by thought. While we all have anxious feelings and reactions now and then, it is uncomfortable to experience anxiety on a regular basis or for longer periods of time. Frequently experiencing anxiety can stress the body and interfere with the ability to make logical choices and decisions about our futures.
When we worry a lot, we become illogically apprehensive of people or situations, and often withdraw from participation in life for fear of failure or because of perceived possible threats. This withdrawal, along with uncontrollable fearful feelings and thoughts, are symptoms that often lead to the clinical diagnoses of Anxiety or Panic Disorder.
If you think you may have an anxiety disorder, please see your doctor first. He or she will help you determine if you need to manage your immediate symptoms medically before counseling would be effective. If it is decided that your symptoms require managing, it is crucial that you do so before working with me, in order to be able to work on the root causes of your anxiety with a cool head.
It is important to treat the symptoms of Anxiety or Panic Disorder with the help of your primary caregiver (usually an MD), and to seek temporary relief to prevent the possibility of harming yourself. But once your acute symptoms are under control, then it is time to look at the root causes of the problems. The root causes may be thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that interact with the way you view your world and cause you to interpret your reality in a fearful way. Uncovering and exploring the root causes of this interpreted reality, will help you experience life with more freedom.
If you are currently taking medications to manage your anxiety, it is important to keep taking them to keep you safe. Only ask your doctor to change your prescription after you've addressed your root causes.
Many people are apprehensive about "working through their fears," because they believe that means that they will have to face their pasts. This is a common fear, but a largely unwarranted one. The techniques I use do not involve dredging up the past. The techniques are gentle and permanent, and do not make you depend on drugs to keep you in an artificial good mood. While medications can help you manage your symptoms for short term relief while you work on the root causes of your anxiety, I believe that pharmaceutical drugs should not be depended on as long term solutions.
Learning about yourself and how you interact with the situations around you are gentle ways to boost your self-awareness and end anxiety. Knowing how and why you react to presented circumstances gives you insight and, most importantly, the opportunity to make new choices that are based on actual reality instead of fearful perception.
Knowing that you will be able to trust yourself in any future situation because you are perceiving reality as an ally, will give you the freedom to re-engage in life, build working relationships, and live a life filled with choice, passion, purpose, and meaning.
Let's take the first step together - today.
We will work with a three pronged approach: Understand, Embody, Relate.
Every week we will progress through cumulative breakthroughs, invite self-discovery, and use easy exercises for greater acceptance and understanding of the world around us.
Soon thereafter we will transition to the next two phases, wherein you will discover the key tools to your own happiness, and co-create your desired future in harmony with the universe.
Anxiety can interfere with our ability to perceive life realistically and enjoy it fully, but it does not need to control your life any longer. Work with me to understand the root causes of your challenges, and begin to transition to a happier and healthier life.
